AI or Professional Headshots?

If you’ve been on social media lately, then you’ve probably seen a slew of photos that look perfect from head to toe from a far BUT “something” just isn’t right. When you look closer, there is a glitch or maybe the fingers on that woman, man, or child appear to be throwing up signs that you can’t just use anywhere! Haha! AI has entered the chat and become a new wave.

First, we saw a lot of people use AI to give their photos a super hero/fictional character effect, now recently it’s been used to generate offspring probability and professional headshots. Although I love the advancement of technology, I’d rather use real photos and encourage others to do the same. Yes, I’m a bias quirky photographer! But I have a few reasons why you should hire someone like myself to take your headshots over technology.

  • First things first, this technology is still developing. Therefore, the chances for errors are much higher. Don’t get me wrong - It’s wonderful to see yourself with your dream body, perfect hair, and dazzling white teeth; but it’s even more wonderful to set goals and choose a photographer who can work with your present beauty at the right angle AND grow with you as you reach your appearance goals over time.

  • Secondly, deception isn’t how business should be done. Unless you are a tech involved business, AI generated headshots shouldn’t be your representation right now. Imagine booking a make up artist who only uses fake images for herself and portfolio of work, then you arrive to your appointment to be dissatisfied in the end because you don’t look like the perfect tech masterpieces you saw on their website. Or, imagine meeting your potential new manger or colleague and they look nothing like their LinkedIn profile pic. Deception isn’t a good first impression.

  • Lastly, keep in mind that there are many layers to usage rights when it comes to AI technology. Whereas booking with myself or another actual photographer will share what rights you have to your photos. I can assure you that I won’t use you or your children’s photos in an inappropriate way. Unfortunately, AI cannot make that same promise.

So the question remains - should you or should you not update your LinkedIn and socials with an AI generated headshot? In short, I don’t believe you should just yet. Think of your industry/profession. Does that image make sense? Once you have that answer, go from there! And when you’re ready to be captured in your best light in who you are now - I’ve got you!
