Is your story alive? Timeless Branding + Inspiration

Have you ever seen something that leaves you in awe of inspiration? This Monday, I was scrolling on Instagram and came upon a post from a photography page I enjoy called the Black Archive. Their focus is showcasing images of black people by black people dating back to decades ago, so more often times than not, the posts touch my heart as a fellow black photographer.

But these images were different. They were all black and white, they all included someone sharing what problem they solve, and they told a story! Then it dawned on me, wow these are branding images! From 1940! In Jamaica! I was stunned and wildly inspired!

Okay sorry about all those exclamation points, I’m just excited to keep talking about how these photos made me feel. These images reminded me that my work not only matters now, but that the stories they tell will live on.

So back to the photos. The images were taken at a resort in Jamaica in 1940 by a photographer named Bradley Smith.

These 10 images told the story of the luxury and convenience of the resort by capturing those that make the stay so special. They captured the expertise of the role of a concierge to personal care of your garments, or even fresh meat if you’re into seeing your meal before it’s cooked!

I’m not sure what this resort was called or if it still exists, but these photos make me feel as though I would want to visit for sure! They’re also proof that branding images have been around and mattered for a long time. When will you start your own story?

Stay inspired,

Bri
